Is Garage Clothing A Fast Fashion Brand? An Expert Breakdown!

There can never be enough fashion brands in the world. Each brand brings with it its color and individuality which makes you shine. This is why we have been seeing the emergence of various brands in the fashion industry and almost all of them are doing quite well. Another brand floating in the sea of the fashion market is Garage Clothing, which has also managed to leave a tiny imprint on the industry.

Established in 1975, Garage Clothing is owned by the same company that also operates Forever 21, Dynamite, and H&M. All these brands listed together immediately create an image in our mind associated with beauty and fashion. Forever 21 and H&M are household names and are especially famous among young girls whose entire teen years are described by these brands.

Garage embodies trendy clothing aimed at women from the ages of 15 to 25. Its brand statement, “Empower you to be you” sums up the idea behind the creation of Garage. It seeks to empower young women and help them find the style and design that describes them perfectly. It has a vast range of clothing because every woman is different and deserves to shine in her way. If you want to be updated with the latest trends and adorn the latest fashion then Garage can easily be your best friend as it is on top of the trending game.

It has something for everyone. If you have a university party to attend or just want to have a picnic in the park, Garage can equip you with the perfect items to make you stand out and be confident. Believe it or not, clothing plays a huge part in boosting one’s confidence and Garage seems to be well aware of that fact.

With a website that is regularly updated and multiple physical stores across Canada, Garage hopes to boost your confidence and help you embrace your uniqueness.

Garage sells pretty accessories and everything from jewelry and bags to shoes of the latest styles. While the brand offers returns and exchanges for all clothing, it does not accept the return of any accessories which was the cause of concern for many customers who wished to return the item they had purchased.

A plus point, however, is that it has partnered with Uber so that customers who reside in Ontario and Quebec can receive their packages within one day! Garage is one of the few brands taking advantage of modern facilities and technologies in such a way and it has proved to be quite fruitful for the brand because who doesn’t love such speedy delivery?

Moreover, in 2021 Garage launched its first unisex collection which is another huge win for the people who admire the brand’s clothing but are not keen on too feminine styles. Plus, this opens the door to the possibility that the brand may start producing men’s clothing as well, further expanding its reach.

It has a significant presence on social media as well with various influencers trying on its items and reviewing them for the audience. Interestingly, it showcases many outfits that famous people have worn on its website, attracting customers to buy them. When we browsed through its website, we found a dress that Chloe Bailey had worn once and posted on her social media account! Of course, it prompted the full force of her fans to rush into the website and stores in an attempt to get their hands on the same dress. This is an admirable way to increase the traffic in its stores and get people to talk about the brand.

A big downside concerning the brand is that many customers think that it is overpriced. Compared to its competitors, Garage’s clothing is pricey even though it is still not at the level of high-end fashion brands. In addition to being pricey, its quality is almost the same as other brands which makes the customers more upset about the increase in pricing. Although it might be a tad bit better than Forever 21 and H&M about the quality of the garments, many still think that the prices do not justify the quality. At such prices, the customers at least expect mid-quality clothing.

Its sale has won the hearts of many people though and it seems to be the hotspot of the brand. Most of its items are purchased through sale and customers are mostly happy with the price and the quality. Still, many customers recommend you check the quality yourself before purchase because some may find it worth it and some may not.

Despite its progressiveness, Garage is not too inclusive where sizes are concerned. It has sizes ranging from XXS to XXL and customers are hoping to get a more diverse range because all body types are good body types in this day and age. Moving on to its sustainability practices, we are sad to mention that there is not much to say.

It uses the usual polyester, cotton, and rayon to make its garments which are the go-to materials for almost all fast fashion brands because they are inexpensive and easy to work with. However, they pose a huge threat to the environment as they take a lot of energy and water to produce and do not decompose easily, which ends up with landfills filled up with clothing made of these materials.

Moreover, it is not transparent about any information regarding its manufacturing countries or where it sources its materials from. It began an initiative to make sustainable denim but upon inspection, it was found that those jeans only used 25% organic cotton. It has a rating of Not Good Enough on the GoodOnYou directory.

Also, it is not clear whether it follows any ethical guidelines or demands certifications from its manufacturers but it is suspected it uses China and Bangladesh for the manufacturing of its items leading to speculation about violation of human rights and child labor.

In conclusion, we can confidently say that Garage is a fast fashion brand and it has a long way to go in the sustainability department. In today’s age, people expect some sort of responsibility from these brands but Garage does not seem to be too concerned about it at present.
