Lucy in The Sky is quite convenient for women in today’s age because hardly anyone has the time or money to spend on pricey and luxurious pieces to spend on for a special event, but disappointingly, the brand can be categorized as fast fashion. It introduces new styles and designs every other week and holds sales to get rid of clothes that have fallen behind on the trending lists, but it also leads to a lot of waste products.

Moreover, even though it may not be as expensive as high-end fashion brands, it is not as cheap as other fast fashion alternatives like Shein. The brand claims that it is because it uses high-quality fabric and raw materials in the production process of its garments but reviews on the quality of the clothing are mixed. Some buyers are ecstatic about the quality of Lucy in The Sky’s clothing and promise to buy from it again while others are extremely disappointed at the fabric which looks like it may fall apart after only a few wears.

Jordan Cole reviewed dresses by Lucy in The Sky, and despite being happy with the limitless choice and design of the clothing, she is worried about the state of the garments after a couple of washes as the straps already seemed to be falling apart after a single wear. She deemed the brand good enough for a few wears but not up-to-the-mark as far as long-lasting and high-quality clothing is concerned.

Better Business Bureau has given the brand a rating of 2.8 stars which is quite low but understandable because it is not transparent about where it sources its materials or where the clothing is manufactured at all. It has used cryptic phrases on its website saying the clothes are designed in Los Angeles, but no information about where they are being manufactured which raises suspicions as brands have no reason to hide such information unless foul practices are at play.

It is also rumored that the manufacturing takes place internationally because many customers have complained about delayed shipping. Such issues mostly occur when the order arrives from another country.

As for its sustainability efforts, the brand has a long way to go still. It was very difficult in fact, to find anything about its sustainability efforts but we managed to find tit-bits on the internet. Firstly, it does seem to use organic cotton in some of its products and even has certifications for some clothing. But, other than a few selected items, the rest of its collections are made using toxic dyes and materials that significantly harm the environment. Moreover, it mass produces most of its garments using cheap materials which enables it to sell the items at low prices. But, it also means more waste production when the trend dies out and the company has to get rid of all that extra product.

It is also questioned whether Lucy in The Sky is ethical or not because it does not seem to feature any Code of Conduct or protection of workers policies on its website. Its manufacturing countries are suspected to be Bangladesh and China which are renowned for their poor working conditions and poor treatment of workers. However, as the brand is hidden under a blanket of mystery, we cannot confirm any of these facts yet.

Surprisingly, it has a rating of 4.2 stars on Trustpilot with many satisfied customers gushing about the beautiful items that they received. In the myriad of happy buyers, we did find a group of unsatisfied people who complained about the slow shipping process and bad customer service which drove them away from the idea of buying from the brand ever again.

Overall, Lucy in The Sky seems to be doing great in terms of fashion and attracting customers but it is also losing out on many customers who care about sustainability and keeping the environment safe. If it decides to embark on the journey towards sustainability, it can surely go a long way!
