Is Luxe to Kill Fast Fashion?

Is Luxe to Kill Fast Fashion?

Fast fashion has detrimental impacts on the environment due to the tremendous amount of waste it produces. It has lowered the quality of life not only by producing low-quality clothes but also by treating its employees unfairly. Thus, the effects of fast fashion are not only limited to the environment but also people’s quality of life.

Luxe to Kill is a brand based in Manchester that was established in 2017 at the founder’s house. Looking at its stylish and trendy website today, it is hard to imagine the brand starting from such humble beginnings. The founder had to hold photoshoots and send out shipments from his garage because the brand was still quite small back then. However, the quality and the excellent customer service won the people over and Luxe to Kill found itself growing rapidly.

The name, Luxe to Kill, is definitely a highlight for the brand because the name is the first thing that customers are attracted to. It’s a cool play on words while also lending the brand personality. Moreover, as the brand focuses on women's clothing and accessories, it is a good way to gather a large following by promising to adorn them with looks to kill.

Even though Luxe to Kill may have grown significantly since its inception, it is still considered a largely smaller company yet its values are well-defined and distinct. It believes in inclusivity and diversity by breaking down the barriers established by society. It also wants to somehow contribute to spreading awareness for mental health for its team and also for the community. But most importantly, at the center of the company are women.

It wants to empower women and equip them with the confidence to embrace themselves and unleash the best version of themselves in the world. The brand can do this by providing them with high-quality clothing and durable clothing that can become a source of pride for women.

A quick survey of Luxe to Kill’s website shows that the brand is really committed to sustainability. In fact, sustainability is one of its key values. In a world of limitless fast fashion brands that guarantee less capital input and a more fruitful output, Luxe to Kill sets itself apart by striving to be a slow fashion brand. It wants to start a new trend in the fashion industry that promotes ethical and responsible manufacturing.

Ever since the establishment of the brand, the owners have attempted to keep it cruelty-free. But in 2020, it actively began focusing on becoming eco-friendly with the belief that “style does not have to cost the Earth”. It reset its business model to slow fashion and became a driving force in the industry as a brand that advocates for a healthy planet.

It focuses on different levels of the manufacturing process where it can control the sustainability aspect. It has a strong belief that by keeping a close eye on the ethical sourcing of products, recycling materials, and repurposing style, it can make a definite change in the company and the environment by reducing its carbon footprint. This is a great step seeing as Luxe to Kill is still a small company and would probably benefit more from a fast fashion model. Yet it has chosen to forego that for a more environmentally friendly alternative.

The brand has remained animal cruelty-free since its establishment. It only sells vegan products and condemns inflicting torture on animals for the sake of fashion. That is why it does not sell leather, fur, or any other such product that may result in harming animals. Luxe to Kill lists a bunch of reasons why vegan products have more benefits, some of which are that they cost comparatively less, are durable, and have a positive effect on the environment. This way the company proves that fashion does not equate to the destruction of nature and animal life.

Luxe to Kill is one of the few companies in the fashion industry to have taken such a bold step seeing that more than half of the industry is ignorant towards the environment and easily gets away with it. But Luxe to Kill believes that the time has come for change. It relays some steps it is taking to make the world more sustainable.

By transitioning from fast fashion model to slow fashion, the company has reduced its waste material significantly. It does not mass produce several designs and hoard them only to throw them in the landfill later. Instead, it selects some of the best designs and manufactures them according to demand so that nothing is wasted.

Another way Luxe to Kill ensures that its products are ethically sourced and manufactured in a healthy working environment is by creating almost all designs in-house in its headquarters in the UK. Even though it has factories in other countries as well, it claims to keep an attentive eye on them as well. However, a sliver of doubt arises at this point because Luxe to Kill does not reveal where any of its factories are located and whether worker’s basic rights are being respected there or not.

The brand also had the goal of making at least 80% of its product packaging made of reused or recyclable material and it fulfilled this goal successfully. It is conscious that its materials are ordered from all over the world, and it has to be aware of the kind of packaging it uses so that it can further the company’s aim of being more sustainable. While plastic is the most popular packaging material, the company tries to reuse materials or use biodegradable materials in its packaging.

An admirable step that the company is currently working on is producing clothing that uses materials to lessen more of its waste material. Taking this step will prevent the use of brand-new material to produce more clothes and the consequential waste ending up in landfills. By using the waste to make more garments, the brand ensures little to no waste.

Despite finding such inspiring information about the company, the lack of transparency is a glaringly obvious issue. No major sustainability website like the GoodOnYou directory has rated it yet, nor has the company provided any Code of Conduct or supplier list that we can use to verify its claims. Even though we want to trust Luxe to Kill blindly, we hope to see more transparency from the brand in the future.
