Is Tiger Mist Fast Fashion? An Expert Breakdown!

Tiger Mist is an Australian clothing brand for young women that offers stylish and affordable apparel. Founded as a retail store in Melbourne, Australia, in 2007 by two sisters, Alana and Stevie Pallister.

After having trouble locating stylish, reasonably priced apparel that suited their unique styles, they were motivated to launch their own clothing business.

Today, Tiger Mist has developed into a well-known global online fashion destination with a cult following on social media and is carried by well-known stores all over the world.

Tiger Mist seeks to empower women and give them an entire wardrobe, regardless of where they live in the world or what their unique style is. Tiger Mist pulls influence from pop culture icons to viral street style.

Interpretation Of The Sustainability Score

Brands receiving a sustainability score of 1 out of 10 are either beginning to adopt sustainable and ethical approaches or don’t have sufficient information on their websites.

They know the impact sustainable approaches have on the environment and how important it is to promote them, but they might not make enough efforts to call them sustainable.

In the case of the brand Tiger Mist, they have neither adopted any sustainable or ethical approaches nor do they have sufficient information on their website.

Also, the brand shows no signs of making efforts to be sustainable even in the future.

What Are The Sustainability Practices Of Tiger Mist?

Tiger Mist agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10% from 2010 levels by 2020, but we haven’t seen any progress till now.

They also promised to power their facilities entirely with renewable energy by 2020, however, this target was also missed.

Although Tiger Mist asserts that they have taken steps to be more sustainable, there have been no unbiased sources that verified these promises.

Are There Any Ethical Practices Of Tiger Mist?

Tiger Mist has received poor reviews for both quality and customer service. They do not currently encourage ethical behavior, they do not publicly state their commitment to racial fairness, and they do not support environmentally friendly packaging methods.

At the moment, neither Tiger Mist's supply chain management methods nor the usage of suppliers who uphold ethical standards in their own businesses or supply chains serve to encourage ethical activities.

Furthermore, the brand has recently paid $26,640 in fines after receiving two infringement letters from the ACCC for allegedly misleading customers about their entitlement to return defective goods.

Between November 2021 and February 2022, Tiger Mist posted remarks on its website stating that customers may only return a defective item by getting in touch with Tiger Mist within 30 days of receiving their order and that the goods were to be returned in their original packaging.

The two infringement warnings were issued in connection with claims made on the Tiger Mist website's Returns page on February 21, 2022.

"Under the Australian Consumer Law, a consumer's right to a remedy for a faulty product is not limited to a specific time period, and consumers do not need to return the faulty product in its original packaging to obtain a refund, replacement, or repair," said Liza Carver, commissioner of the ACCC.

On the Tiger Mist website's Returns page, the first sentence read:

"If you think a product you bought from us is broken, wrong, or missing something, send us an email at customercare@tigermist.com.au along with pictures of the problem. Within 30 days after receiving your order, you must submit any claims.

The second statement was:

RETURNS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED WHEN:

Everything is in its initial state.

Everything is kept in its original packing.

Tags are still affixed to clothing.

The clothing is clean, unwashed, and unstained.

"Whether they buy anything online or in a physical store, consumers have the same rights. We will continue to examine the practices of clothing retailers, including online retailers, and take enforcement action where necessary, Ms. Carver said.

In response to the ACCC's complaints, Tiger Mist updated its website and took the statements down.

But still, we have not seen any improvement in the packaging and their customer service. The customers are still livid at their behavior and the response from their customer service.

Does Tiger Mist Make Sure That They Don't Employ Child Labor?

It is very disappointing to know that they haven’t mentioned their manufacturing countries on their website nor have done anything to support their workers. They have been always silent on this issue.

However, their products are marked "Made in China" on the label, but there is no other information given.

Does Tiger Mist Give Back To The Community?

Tiger Mist launched a campaign in 2014 named “Warriors Campaign” which was a charity that supported young people with cancer. There isn’t much information about the campaign so we are not sure how the campaign went.

After that, we haven’t seen any campaigns or donations from the brands. So, they aren’t focusing on giving back to the community right now.

Does Tiger Mist Have Any Animal Welfare Policies?

We haven’t found any animal-derived materials, such as skin, hair, fur, and silk, in the Tiger Mist products. All of their products are made with synthetic materials.

However, Tiger Mist has never been open about its animal welfare policies and has kept quiet about them.
